Saint-Maurice la Clouère

The imposing Roman church dedicated to Saint-Maurice, was built around 1100. Its gothic chevet and paintings deserve a visit.
The elegant castles, Galmoisin, Laudonière, the Mott-Comtais, and La Pin were built in the commune from the middle ages up until the end of the 19th century.

Clearing of the moors at the beginning of the 20th century allowed the expansion of small holders and the development of cattle farming as witnessed by the huge barns. The best land in the valleys produced an abundance of cereals. Water mills for grain, bark and iron lined the valley of the Clain.

Today, the commune, near to Poitiers is very active and has a sports hall, a recreational centre and a cultural centre “Allard Espace”.
